Splat-O-Nym is a comprehensive, independent vocabulary development tool designed to enhance students' understanding of synonyms and antonyms through four engaging activities: Synonym Splat, Antonym Attack, Context Contest, and Lightning Round. The platform tracks student progress across multiple levels, allowing for an adaptive learning experience that responds to individual performance. It retains data for up to six students between sessions and generates detailed performance reports following each Lightning Round, providing valuable insights into student progress. Additionally, the activities include auditory options, enabling students to listen to words to support multisensory learning.

Synonym Splat involves students selecting (tapping) synonyms for target words presented on-screen, earning points for correct matches and losing points for incorrect ones. Progression through the levels (24 in total, divided into two sets of 12) depends on correctly identifying four synonyms in levels 1-12 or five in levels 13-24 before making two incorrect selections. Incorrect answers are visually indicated, and target words for which incorrect responses were given reappear periodically to reinforce correct pairing. When the student successfully splats the required number of synonyms, they move to the next level.

The Context Contest activates if a student accumulates two incorrect responses in a level. This activity offers an opportunity to regain lost points by selecting the correct synonym based on its use in a sentence. The student must identify and pop the bubble containing the synonym within a sentence context, thereby reinforcing contextual understanding of vocabulary.

Antonym Attack becomes available once sufficient points are earned in Synonym Splat. In this game, students are presented with three monsters carrying target word flags. They must slide and tap the correct antonym into each monster’s horn to defeat it. Incorrect selections cause the monster to growl and reject the word, prompting the student to try again. Scoring is based on the number of correct antonyms identified on the first attempt, encouraging accuracy and quick recognition.

The Lightning Round occurs after collecting twenty splatted target words. During this competitive phase, students have 30 seconds to select as many correct synonyms as possible from the list of target words. The activity concludes with a points tally reflecting the number of correct selections within the time limit, promoting speed and fluency in vocabulary recognition.
